Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was quizzed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials at his official residence in Ranchi for over eight hours in connection with the alleged land scam case. The ED had earlier issued seven notices to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader for questioning. However, he skipped all of them. Following the eighth summons, he agreed to record his statement.
The case relates to the purchase and sale of tribal land between 2020 and 2022 by allegedly forging documents. Seven ED officials reached Mr. Soren’s residence at 1 p.m. and questioned him till 8.30 p.m. Of them, three came from Delhi. When the officials were questioning him, JMM workers turned up outside the house and protested against the agency. With heavy deployment of security forces, the entire area was turned into a virtual fortress.
ED officials did not interact with the media after questioning him. Sources said that over 100 questions were asked to Mr. Soren and he replied politely. The Central agency is likely to approach Mr. Soren for a second round of questioning. Once ED officials left his residence, Mr. Soren came out with a smile and met the supporters who were sitting outside his house since morning. He waved to them and they shouted slogans in his support.
‘Will win this fight’
“Our Opposition is trying to dominate us with the help of ED and other investigating agencies, but we are not afraid of anything because we have not done anything wrong. We will face all the conspiracies of the Central government and will win this fight,” said Mr. Soren, who was first summoned for questioning in August 2023.
“Conspiracy is being hatched to dethrone our government. Conspiracy is being done to conquer our land, but we will fight against all those powers who want to snatch our forest, our land and our houses. The people of Jharkhand have made this government and it will stand tall. It is time to put the final nail in their coffin, don’t worry. We must be united to fight the power which is trying to dominate us,” Mr. Soren said.
Earlier in the day, Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta, after coming out of the CM’s residence,
termed the ED questioning a misuse of the Central agencies. He said the government is not afraid of anyone. “He [Mr. Soren] is smiling like any other normal day and meeting them [ED officials]. We are not afraid of anyone because he did not do anything wrong,” said Mr. Gupta. A video of Congress MLA Irfan Ansari crying and hugging Mr. Soren in his house has gone viral. Sensing his possible arrest, the BJP alleged that Mr. Soren planned to resign and install his wife Kalpana Soren as his successor.

कथित भूमि घोटाला मामले में झारखंड के मुख्यमंत्री हेमंत सोरेन से प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ईडी) के अधिकारियों ने रांची में उनके आधिकारिक आवास पर आठ घंटे से अधिक समय तक पूछताछ की। ईडी ने पहले झारखंड मुक्ति मोर्चा नेता को पूछताछ के लिए सात नोटिस जारी किए थे। हालाँकि, उन्होंने उन सभी को छोड़ दिया। आठवें समन के बाद, वह अपना बयान दर्ज कराने के लिए सहमत हुए।
यह मामला कथित तौर पर फर्जी दस्तावेज तैयार कर 2020 से 2022 के बीच आदिवासी जमीन की खरीद-बिक्री से जुड़ा है। दोपहर एक बजे ईडी के सात अधिकारी श्री सोरेन के आवास पर पहुंचे. और रात 8.30 बजे तक उनसे पूछताछ की. इनमें से तीन दिल्ली से आए थे। जब अधिकारी उनसे पूछताछ कर रहे थे तो झामुमो कार्यकर्ता घर के बाहर आ गये और एजेंसी के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन करने लगे. सुरक्षा बलों की भारी तैनाती के साथ, पूरे क्षेत्र को एक आभासी किले में बदल दिया गया।
उनसे पूछताछ के बाद ईडी के अधिकारियों ने मीडिया से बातचीत नहीं की. सूत्रों ने बताया कि श्री सोरेन से 100 से अधिक सवाल पूछे गये और उन्होंने विनम्रता से जवाब दिया. केंद्रीय एजेंसी दूसरे दौर की पूछताछ के लिए श्री सोरेन से संपर्क कर सकती है। एक बार जब ईडी अधिकारी अपने आवास से चले गए, तो श्री सोरेन मुस्कुराते हुए बाहर आए और उन समर्थकों से मिले जो सुबह से उनके घर के बाहर बैठे थे। उन्होंने उनकी ओर हाथ हिलाया और उन्होंने उनके समर्थन में नारे लगाये।
‘यह लड़ाई जीतेंगे’
“हमारा विपक्ष ईडी और अन्य जांच एजेंसियों की मदद से हम पर हावी होने की कोशिश कर रहा है, लेकिन हम किसी से नहीं डरते क्योंकि हमने कुछ भी गलत नहीं किया है। हम केंद्र सरकार की सभी साजिशों का सामना करेंगे और इस लड़ाई को जीतेंगे, ”श्री सोरेन ने कहा, जिन्हें पहली बार अगस्त 2023 में पूछताछ के लिए बुलाया गया था।
“हमारी सरकार को गिराने की साजिश रची जा रही है। हमारी जमीन को जीतने की साजिश की जा रही है, लेकिन हम उन सभी शक्तियों से लड़ेंगे जो हमारे जंगल, हमारी जमीन और हमारे घरों को छीनना चाहती हैं। झारखंड की जनता ने इस सरकार को बनाया है और यह सरकार खड़ी रहेगी. अब उनके ताबूत में आखिरी कील ठोंकने का समय आ गया है, चिंता न करें। हमें उस शक्ति से लड़ने के लिए एकजुट होना चाहिए जो हम पर हावी होने की कोशिश कर रही है, ”श्री सोरेन ने कहा।
इससे पहले दिन में झारखंड के स्वास्थ्य मंत्री बन्ना गुप्ता सीएम आवास से बाहर आकर बोले.
ईडी की पूछताछ को केंद्रीय एजेंसियों का दुरुपयोग बताया. उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार किसी से डरने वाली नहीं है. “वह [मि. सोरेन] किसी अन्य सामान्य दिन की तरह मुस्कुरा रहे हैं और उनसे [ईडी अधिकारियों] से मिल रहे हैं। हम किसी से नहीं डरते क्योंकि उसने कुछ भी गलत नहीं किया है,” श्री गुप्ता ने कहा। कांग्रेस विधायक इरफान अंसारी का अपने घर में श्री सोरेन से गले मिलकर रोने का वीडियो वायरल हो गया है. उनकी संभावित गिरफ्तारी को भांपते हुए, भाजपा ने आरोप लगाया कि श्री सोरेन ने इस्तीफा देने और अपनी पत्नी कल्पना सोरेन को अपना उत्तराधिकारी बनाने की योजना बनाई है।
